WHAS Crusade for Children - http://www.whascrusade.org
WHAS Crusade for Children is one of six charitable choices. According to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, one in five Kentuckians now needs assistance. The governor spoke Thursday, July 15 at the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign (KECC) kick off where he applauded state employees for stepping up to help those in need. Beshear said, “This is a tough time. I don’t have to tell you that.”

Employees from the various state departments fill the Frankfort Convention Center. They heard from the governor as well as the six charities which benefit from their generosity. The WHAS Crusade for Children is one of those charities.

Dawn Lee, CEO of the WHAS Crusade for Children said, “The Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign is so important to the WHAS Crusade for Children because it allows us to involve state employees across the entire state who support our mission of helping children with special needs.”
State employees gave $1.4 million last year. The goal for 2010 is $1,510,000.

Eastern Kentucky University Interpreter Outreach - http://www.interpreting.eku.edu
EKU offers a 4-year BS degree which trains students to become skilled at sign language interpreting so that upon graduation a student can begin working as an interpreter for the deaf, a career that has many benefits and advantages.
EKU is dedicated to training and educating students to their fullest, and the ITP at Eastern not only reflects this philosophy but also aims to become a nationwide leader in training qualified and professional interpreters.

The ITP is housed on EKU's Richmond campus. During the first two-years students take general education classes and prerequisites which include ASL classes. Students then apply for the ITP program - admission to EKU is not synonymous with admission to the ITP.
Applications are accepted in the spring of even numbered years. Students selected into the program then attend full-time for two years of intensive interpreting course work. Transfer students meeting the prerequisites, including those who have a two-year degree in interpreting, are welcome to apply to our program. (We are not an on-line program.)
